HOW IT ALL STARTED…

Glass Artisans Studio & Gallery has been on the Cabot Trail for over 20 years and features over 40 glass artists from Canada. Most of the work in the Gallery is either made onsite in our Glass Blowing Studio or Fusing Studio. When I decided to build a business and home for my family, I focused on creating a functional space that took advantage of the beautiful tree top views surrounding the property. The house has served my family well for 15 years but my kids are grown, and now it is the perfect space to share with visitors of Cape Breton Island.

Wendy Smith, Gallery Owner

My journey in stained glass began with a simple project, two stained glass side lamps. I bought a book, some materials and set to work. Soon I was receiving custom orders from friends and family. A few years later I found myself at a literal crossroads, three children and a car full of groceries. One road led to the mainland and the other toward the Atlantic, I followed the sea air. Eventually I settled here in Cape Breton and when there wasn't a suitable career available I set about building one out of glass. My business blossomed and eventually in 2004 grew into a gallery that has become one of the highlights of the world famous Cabot Trail. I built a business, a home and raised three wonderful children. I hope the gallery brings you as much joy as it has for me and is your starting point on a journey of your very own.
